IC:
Miyuki sighed, her boots dug sharply in the icy snow as she headed down the familiar path with purpose. Her time at the ninja academy was almost over, she was just days away from graduation, and felt the need to visit her parents for reassurance… and to possible convince them to attend. She knew that they never approved of her becoming a ninja… but she hopped they would at least show up to support her on her big day.
Miyuki’s parents where always so secretive, she never really knew why they never mentioned where her family originated from. In fact, aside from her grandmother on her father’s side… she had never seen any of her family at all. If all her family was, was a clan of simple farmers… then why keep it hidden from her? Why is it that she never saw any other members of her family? And why… did she show progress of becoming a ninja, if no one else in her family had a bit of ninja in them as well?
These thoughts buzzed around angrily in the back of her mind, as she trudged silently ahead. She was eerily silent, in deep thought, the sound of the ice crunching under her boots and Kai’s paws echoing around them. Miyuki glanced up as a small dot in the distance became visible, and she let a sad smile creep across her face. ”Well Kai… there’s home… I hope this all goes well. Try to be on your best behavior… alright?”
The rest of the way up the mountain seemed to take no time at all, and it wasn't very long before she found herself at the entrance to the small mountain village she called home. Glancing down nervously at the small cub at her heals, she thought it wise to carry him the rest of the way, lest the villagers think he was a threat.
With Kai now safe in her arms, she made her way through the village to her once childhood home. After a short walk, she found herself frozen at the cabins door. Pausing briefly, she took in a deep breath and knocked softly. As the door opened, her eyes briefly met those of her mothers before the woman smiled widely then stepped inside for her to enter.
"Miyuki dear, now this is a nice surprise." Stepping behind Miyuki, she nudged her inside the small house and ushered her into the kitchen. "Sit! Sit! Now tell me, It's not that I don't mind these surprise visits and all, but aren't you supposed be working on your ninja studies dear? And... if you don't mind me asking, why you have brought a bear cub into my home?" Miyuki sweat dropped, setting Kai down on the ground next to her to rub the back of her head sheepishly instead.
As Miyuki began to describe the chance meeting with the small cub, her mother closed her eyes with a small smile, nodding every now and then to show she was still listing to her story. "I see... so you two will be traveling together now... Well, I don't see anything wrong with that. However, that still doesn't tell me why your lacking in your studies now does it."
To prove her point, she waggled her finger in a amusing way. "Does this mean that you have finally come to your senses? I knew you would realize that the life of a ninja wasn't what you needed dear. Tell me that is why you have come home!" Miyuki took a few moments, before taking a deep breath. "No mother its not." Her mother sighed deeply, chuckling a bit, as if she expected her answer to be such. "Oh, I didn't think so. But a mother can dream can't she? Now then, tell me the real reason you came to visit your dear old mother."
"Do I have to have a reason to visit now? But, yes there is a reason why I have come...." Miyuki closed her eyes tightly, as she pulled out a small scroll from her jacket pocket and handed it to the women in front of her. "It's been almost a year now that I've been studying mother, I've learned so much during my stay... I've come back home, to personally invite you to my graduation."
Her mother was silent, not a person or bear in the room moved, and Miyuki herself dared not to even breath. "I see..." Her mother smiled sweetly at her daughter before reaching out to tough her arm gently. "I am very proud of you Miyuki. I truly did not want this life for you.. but if it is what makes you happy, you have my blessing. You have worked hard to get where you are, I would expect nothing less than from my own daughter."
Her eyes watering, Miyuki lunged forth to envelop her mother into a hug, staining mothers kimono with her tears. "Now then.." Her mother gently lifted her chin with her finger to meet her eyes. "I will pack my bags later, but now... I need you to tell me all about your stay at the academy. Did you meet some new friends there? How where they feeding you? Where the staff treating you well? Tell me everything!"
Miyuki straightened herself, briefly brushing away the reminiscent of tears away with her sleeve. "Well.. to be truthful, allot of things happened to me...." And with that, she described her life as it was from the day she enrolled up into the day she left. Leaving out a few select thing of course... 'Sorry mother, but a girl does have to have her privacy you know...'
Her story now through, Miyuki stared at her mother expectantly. "Well now... that is interesting!" Her mother seemed to be in deep thought, opening her mouth a few times seemingly to start a sentence, before reconsidering at the last moment and closing it tightly. After a few moments of silence, she seemed to come to a decision and glanced at Miyuki meaningfully. "Miyuki dear... I know this is going to sound a bit strange to you, but did anything else happen to you at the academy? Something... that you couldn't quite explain?"
Miyuki blinked, once, twice. "Something... I couldn't explain... I'm afraid I don't understand.." Her mother swallowed thickly. "What I mean dear, is did anything happen to you at the academy, that normal wouldn't happen to you here?" Tilting her head to the side, Miyuki took a moment to filter through her memory.
"I... don't think anything weird like that happened to me mother..." Miyuki was inwardly a bit shocked at the relief that surfaced on her mothers face. "That's good to here! I was afraid that you where going to catch a cold of some sort from the change of climate, it's quite different you know..." She chuckled a bit, placing a hand gingerly on her chest. "Silly me..."
"A cold? Well... now that you mentioned it I did catch a bit of a cold... if you can even call it that really." Her mothers eyes darted quickly to meet her own. "Can you describe it to me dear?" Miyuki nodded and continued.
"It all started about a few months after I starting taking classes... I started to notice that whenever I was outside for long periods of time, I would start to overheat and sweat allot. Everyone else at the academy seemed just fine though... so I figured it must have been from the change of climate, like you said." Her mother nodded, urging her to continue.
"A while after that... I started to get a fever. It was odd though... it came and went so quickly, and only on the hottest of days. I remember that one day it was so hot, I fainted right in the middle of class." Miyuki chuckled a bit. "It was only 90 degrees, imagine how silly I looked. I woke up in the academy medical wing, the nurse said that I was perfectly fine and healthy. Told me I should tell you about the incident though... that was what really worried me."
"Why would she want me to ask.. you..." Miyuki could only stare as tears began streaming down her mothers face. Her hand came up to clasp her mouth as she leaned back onto the counter with a sob. "Mother? Mother whats wrong?!?!" In an instant she she was by her mothers side full of worry. Her mother however, turned away from her daughter, and gestured towards the living room. "Miyuki dear.... there is much we need to talk about."
Following her mother into the other room, she took a seat and looked to her mother expectantly. The women drifted over to an old bookcase of sorts and retrieved a small cloth covered item, before taking a seat next to her. Without uttering a word, she gently took one of Miyuki's hand, and placed the cloth in her palm. Removing the cloth, she revealed a small silver medallion with a symbol etched clearly onto its front of three frozen tears.
"These tears... " Miyuki's mother began, pausing to build suspense of what seemed to be a very important information. "These tears are the symbol of the Hyoujun clan of Hyouga." "But mother... what does that have to do with..." Her hand silenced Miyuki and her thoughts. "This is the symbol of the Hyoujun clan.. this is where your family's roots lie."
And so began the long explanation of the Hyoujun clan, it's history... it's past. "I didn't want you to ever have to find out about this Miyuki... it was really for your own good. The clan... it's past is shrouded in darkness, secrecy and I never wanted any of my children to be involved. But now... I guess neither of us have a choice do we?" Her mother smiled, before taking the medallion and returning it to its previous perch on its shelf.
"Within the Hyoujun clan, there is a condition that exists known to them as the Heat Cold. The symptoms appear when one is exposed to temperatures drastically different then that of Hyouga. Sweating, fevers... This cold... effects only the Hyoujun in this unique way. I believe.. no I know now, that this is the what you have described to me."
Taking Miyuki's hands within her own, her mother gazed deeply into her daughters eyes. "I think it is time... for you to meet the rest of your family. Not now, but soon. After your graduation, I will take you to Hyouga to meet with the clans main branch."
"My chakra circulatory system as a child, was severely underdeveloped, this Heat Cold, is an effect of the clans special abilities, but due to my disability, it was something that I never quite experienced. The members of the clan will be able to help you understand who you are."
Miyuki was lost in though, too absorbed in the sudden surge of emotions that she never even noticed her mother leave the room. What seemed seconeds deep within Miyuki's mind turned out to be hours, as her mother returned with a fully packed suitcase and ready to leave.
"Miyuki dear... please speak to me... you have been sitting there for hours, just staring off into space. Just look at your little bear friend over there, I think you may be worrying him." Miyuki glanced down to her leg, where said bear was pawing to gain her attention. A small smile crept across her face, as she lifted the bear to her chest and joined her mother at the door.
"Just thinking is all.... I see now why you never told me mother... but I'm glad you did. I do however... want to learn more. I want to learn more about the clan, where our family came from, everything. After learning all of this... I'm still me, I will always be me. I don't think that learning about the clan will change anything."
Her mother smiled brightly in return. "No... I don't think it will. Now then, I think we should be on our way. We have a graduation to attend now don't we? Oh... I do hope the guest suits at that dorm of yours are decent, not like some of those cheap hotels I hope." Laughing Miyuki grabbed her mothers suit case and walked the path out of the village together, Kai following close at her heals.
