~Welcome to Natsuke's Vector & Sketch Art Thread~
(updated 06/20/09)

http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee172/natsuketakeda/Natsuke.jpg

Just showing some of my new art. Before, I tried to follow everyone else and just try to color in photoshop. But now I realize that photoshop isn't my thing, and instead I have a newfound romance with Illustrator and it's beautiful vector-based calculations and programs. Though everyone is a Adobe Photoshop nut, I am staking myself as an illustrator advocate and saying it is the true direction for any artist. With the use of the pen tool and the mesh tool, anything is absolutely possible with it.

All works here are copyrighted (c) under my name. I'm being honest and saying that works I put up here may be used for my portfolio, and will be in your best interest to not steal them. I'm not saying it's steal-worthy, but regardless, don't steal other ppl's work!

And remember guys:
- Practice Practice Practice!
- Everyone progresses at their own pace~

That girl in the background of "Treaty Cell Team 7" (hope it's a girl, I've never been good with that stuff...either way though...) really stuck out to me. You can really see the swinging action in her body and her facial expression is well done. Good job ^-^

I've returned with three new sketches~

Also, I'd like to thank everyone to their praise and critiques. I'm very grateful that you all would take the time to look at them and give them your thoughts.

I actually got a new book I found in the bookstore that focused on human movement and capturing sketches at precise moments. It's called "Drawing People: How to portray the clothed figure" by Barbara Bradley. It's a very good read for people who wish to sketch natural movement easier. Through various techniques, you can apply whichever technique suits you best to /layout/ your character.

One of my biggest problems with sketching was that it took me so long to sketch out /anything/ because I couldn't visualize it long enough in my head. People always told me to use guides, but they couldn't really offer a good example of how to use them. So for anyone who really needs more than just one way to create guides for figures, I recommend that book. I'm not even close to fully studying it, and I feel my figure movement... well, it's gotten slightly better, BUT it's become faster to sketch what's in my head, allowing me to detail with more time.

I've actually gotten a PM a while back asking how the pen tool works on Adobe Illustrator. I assure you, it's not easy at the least, but as you get used to it, you become more efficient and, like lots of things you do, you develop techniques naturally to make it simpler.

Don't believe me? Take a look at how my "High Noon Shrine" vector was created!

High Noon Shrine (Outline Mode) (http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee172/natsuketakeda/JapanOutline.jpg)

The more realistic you try to make it look, the more precise the pen tool must be used. Also note that the pen tool ALONE is not very efficient. The top left visual is created through using the pathfinder, since it's way too time-consuming to create the branches line by line. Remember, it's all about illusion~

Anyways, that's my little speech for today. Hopefully my book recommendation can help you guys out. I'm always looking to improve, after all.

Keep sketching!

~Natsuke
