Name: The Society

Three hundred years ago, there was a young woman who emerged from the deserts of Rikuhi. She gathered stragglers and vagabonds, forming her ‘pride’. They were fierce and merciless to enemies, especially to those who mistreated any feline creature. Over time, this group learned to be more peaceful, though not as passive as other organizations; instead of taking what they want, they learned to trade their services for it. In essence, they are a group of people who wanted to survive and in time, learned different ways of survival. Also over time, they rose above other organizations when it came to social standing as they amassed power and wealth. The people who surrounded the woman, their leader, practically worshipped her and never questioned her orders. And then, they vanished.
In present day Rikuhi, a young girl named Snow found a very peculiar hat amidst a display of cheap wares. Not having any money, she just took the item and ran. She wore the hat from that day forward and fondly called it ‘Kana’. One day, while shaking the dust off her hat after she finished a class at the University, Snow discovered that it had a thick layer of cloth within and under that cloth, there was a parchment made of very sturdy yet soft material. Unable to understand the writings, she took it to one of the University scholars who then directed her to the Lune research group at the University. They scrutinized the parchment and one of the researchers, Maurice, successfully deciphered its contents, which they sent to the Lune Mansion in Nagare along with the girl who discovered it.
From there, The Society was formed. Initially aimed at cat owners only, other cat lovers were also allowed into the organization. That one piece of parchment contained a line which hinted at the location of another parchment, which Yukari of the Lune Clan hoped to find.
Current Leader(s):
- The leaders of The Society use codenames for when they send out orders. They expect to be treated as normal members and to be addressed using their real names while in public, to keep their positions in The Society as secret within the organization. The names are taken from myths which the Lune Research Team connected to the name "Bast". -

- Supposedly, he was the son of Bast. As the leader of The Society, he re-created the current rules and by-laws based on the parchment. None of his demands or orders are to be taken lightly; all members are expected to follow what he says to the letter. This is both a blessing and a burden to him, as the responsibility of keeping the members safe and their actions a secret also falls heavily on his shoulders. This title is currently held by Raiden Rothier.

- Bast's equal, though some say that she is the darker side of Bast herself. She is in charge of research and information-gathering about the state of pets, especially cats. The task of finding the other parchments about the original Society falls on her shoulders. This title is currently held by Lune-Ikeda, Yukari.

- It is said to be a spectral cat that haunts the highlands. He leads The Society when it is time to pass down 'judgment' upon the 'heretics'. Making decisions about 'heretics' are left up to him, and he may punish them as he sees fit. He may send out a group or a lone member to retrieve the heretic, or he may go out himself and punish the unclean one with his own hands. This title is currently held by Suterusu, Shunsatsu... also known as Shai'tan.

- ‘Heretics’: In the parchment, ‘heretics’ are described as people who hate cats or any type of feline, and especially those who attempt to harm the creatures. No excuses are accepted, even if a person hates cats because he is allergic to it, the Society will still view him as a heretic and will punish him. Those who simply hate cats are “re-educated”, that is, forced by the Society to develop a liking for cats using whatever method is available. Those who attempt to harm cats, and especially those who mortally endanger/wound a cat, are punishable by a slow, painful death not only for themselves but for their immediate family as well.
