Ferrum walked out of the dorm room with his head fixed on the ground, his days at the academy had become a slight tedium that was broken up with the occasional encounter with other students, boring classes, and the rare hunk of wood to the face. he was looking for the wolf that normally followed him around as he did every day, like normal he made his way into the near by woods making his way around the usual trees and dodging the usual low branches, roots and underbrush. " why cant anything fun or cool ever happen around here?" the boy muttered as he glanced up ant the partially obscured sky.
Ferrum reached the place where the wolf normally napped in. Ferrum looked around the clearing to see where his wolf companion could be, the wolf luporus was no where to be seen, perhaps he found an injured swirl, bird or some other woodland animal."Oi! Luporus-kun!"
ferrum was caught off guard, he was not the one to shout the name of his wolf, rather some oddly familiar voice had rung out from the tree line. "oh, sorry i forgot that you don't go by that name any more, now what was it that those two renamed you.... Feverus no, Furium no, Ferricus no not that eyether...." the voice continued, Ferrum could not tell who it was, where it was coming from or what it wanted. "oh yah! they called you Ferrum Hazin right? yah thats got to be it!" the voice was growing louder as it continued, but Ferrum still could not discover who it belonged to nor where it was coming from.
"man it was a pain tracking you down without letting any one back home what i was doing, and it just got more frustrating when that aunt and uncle of yours went and shipped you off fer this place.... they never did like me...." the voice continued to say, just then a hooded figure entered the clearing, though he could not see the figures face Ferrum immediately knew who he was. "well killing there sister sure as hell wouldn't help would it!" ferrum shouted loud as he could at the hooded figure. "well wa-da-ya know! you remembered! from what i had gathered you thought i had left because your mom kicked it in child labor and i was never told about you...this would have been so much essayer if ya did..." the man said as he took off his hood, he had dirty brown hair , deep green eyes, a short scruffy beard, and a face that looked like an older and more world weary version of Ferrum's.
"why the hell are you here Akaran...." ferrum said as he stared at his estranged father, the two hadn't met since Akaran had accidental killed Ferrum's mother in an attempt to murder ferrum himself. "Akaran? why are you calling me that Ferrum-kun, you should be calling me tou-san or dad or pops or something along those lines..." he said as he scratched his beard and looked at his son, "after all you've done you expert to walk up to me and say; 'Hay son I'm sorry i tried to kill you and accidental sliced your mom in half, now call me pops and lets go back to being a real family!' id rather eat that wolfs rancid crap!"
"good, i wasn't going to offer you any of that." the man said in a new tone, before he had some what of a happy tone, but now every word he said held some form of a lingering dread. "you assume far too much boy, i could not care less about you having a normal life, hell my people would forbid you to join the clan as you are now..." he said as he looked at ferrum, his eyes seemed to cut through ferrum very soul, he had felt this way before but when and were he could not recall.
"....well... you obviously came here for a reason.... what is it...." Ferrum said as he tried to regain his lost composure. "straight to he point eh? very well then, but first let me explain to you a bit of our family history..." Akaran said as he glanced up at the sky. "surely you've heard there whispers by now, felt the push and tug that they have over you, there guiding hand steering you directions that you would never think to go down normally perhaps you've not heard there voices yet but never the less, i know that you have had at least one encounter with one of them...." he said as he placed his hand on the hilt of a blade.
Ferrum was speechless, everything that his father had said had happened, he had felt odd little feelings tugging at him nearly all his life, especially since he came to the University. part of him wished to flee to run away to fight ever thing that his father had said, but at the same time he knew that he could not fight or escape, this man was far too strong he would have to listen weather he wanted to or not. "those odd feelings, those little voices, they are far from what the norm of this society would try and have you believe. if you told people of them they would think you to be a mad man, that your mind had been tainted or in some way damaged; but in reality you are quite the opposite..." Akaran slowly said.
Ferrum had no idea about what to do or what to say, everything his father had said so far was completely new to him and slightly bazaar, but at the same time it was as though he had know it for all his life and that it was the only real truth in this world "you, much like myself are a part of an all but dead people who for century's ave been able to communicate and call upon the aid of the spirits of our world, i am the chieftain of The Bastiato Clan, and though you are unfit for now; you will one day become my secsesor..."
Ferrum had no idea what to say, a man who ferrum only remembered as the man from his night mares who tried to kill him and cleaved his mother in two. now the same man who had haunted his dreams come out of the wood work, literally, and told ferrum that he would be his successor in some clan that he never heard of before. nothing seemed to add up to him, if his father intended to leave him this clan why would he try to kill him? Ferrum had no idea, but he was determined to find out. "assuming that what you've said was all true" he said as he tried to hide his emotions as best he could; "then why would you try to kill me..."
"... simply put, it was at the time; my only option..." Akaran said as he glanced over at his son. "grate! this ass answers one question and raises another!" ferrum thought as he met his fathers glance, "i seem to be at a disadvantage here, could you enlighten me as to why you had to kill your own wife and try to kill your only son..." ferrum said as coldly as he could. though the two looked alike and sounded alike in Ferrum's mind the two of them where polar opposites, how wrong he was.
"i was getting to that boy" Akaran muttered as he reached into one of his pockets, he pulled out a small scroll and unfurled it slightly "if you must know i did it all over loyalty to our family" he said as he looked down at the parchment "nearly 35 years ago at the pique of our peoples power.... bla bla bla.... just then the ceremonial gong.... bad omen bad omen bad omen..." as he spoke he seemed less and less like the heartless monster that ferrum thought him to be, perhaps he suffered from the same lack of common sense that his son did, "oh! here we go! the clan compound suddenly grew dark and cold, the spirits that had fought along side us for generations went mad in a bloody furry that made the earth shake as the heavens cried out in rage, within moments nearly half of us where dead, and the others dieing, the spirits lashed out, tearing and ripping through the flesh of our people.... harbingers of doom, blood gore and death.... countless torn and mutilated bodies strewn across the coartyards...you get the idea..." he seemed to grow saddened as he read from the scroll.
when he was done he chucked the scroll over to Ferrum, it was small and had a small common print, however as ferrum held it plainly in his hands the words quickly faded; "that will tell you all you need to know about of people, and on the record; it can only be read if you focus your chakra straight into it, otherwise it just seems to be a blank scroll and no one will be the wiser..." Akaran said as he glanced back at his son. "i don't get it? what the hell dos this have to do with me and my mother?" ferrum said as he put the scroll in his pocket. "i was getting to that as well, gaze your impashant... probably got that from me though." he said as he glanced up at the ssky once more.
"what if i told you that every one you know and love was going to die expert for the two closest people to you, and that those two survivors where going to be the cause of all the others deaths and that the only way you knew of stooping them was by ending there lives... would you kill them to save your friends and family, or would you let every single person close to you die for the sake of two people..... that was the decision i made all those years ago...." as he spoke his voice became softer and quite saddened s his gaze dropped to the floor. Ferrum was shocked, not at the choice his father was forced to make, nor by the outcome that he had reached, but by the fact that he would have made the exact same choice.
Ferrum did not know what to think of the man that stood in front of him, as long as he could remember the man (which was only about a weak or two) he had thought of him as a cruel murderer, but now he seemed quite saddened and venerable, perhaps the saying about never meeting your hero's also extended to ones villains. ".... ok! enough of this depressing crap! i don't get to let my tie loose that often and i don't want to spend my rare moments of freedom all gloomy!!!" Akaran shouted as he acted like a bigger fool then his so, "damn! i think i can understand why i piss Tsukiko-san off so much!" ferrum thought as he looked at his father hoping to the gods that he would not end up like him.
" alright, down to business! now i haven't told you exactly why ive contacted you yet so here goes!" he shouted as he pulled out a pair of kuni, "now I'm really sorry 'bout this but i have to make this look convincing and all!" Akaran said with a grin on his face, he then hurled the two kuni at Ferrum, before he could react the blades has embedded themselves in both of Ferrum's shoulders passing almost all the way through and pinning him to a near by tree. "GAK!!! what the hell are you doing you old bastard!?" ferrum shouted as his head slammed against the tree trunk, "sorry boy but i told the guys back at the clan hq, that i was intimidating a witness and again it has to look convincing! now back to my point."
in a matter of moments Ferrum's opinion of the man had shifted nearly all the way back to the way they were before the two had met, "ok! first; you need to lay low; if i could find ya' then who knows who else could have! hell it could have been that old friend of mine form the Yuzuki clan, one of the hit men, or even a rival who wants to learn of our peoples secrets!" it was odd, the old man seemed to actually care as he spoke, "two! you need to find some allies, preferably strong, smart and from the village, that Tsukiko girl you keep running into would be a good candidate... oh and don't ask how i know her name, ive been doing reckon for the past few days... oh! and try to clean up that room of yours! its a complete pigs sty!" ferrum was dumb struck, even though he had just been pinned to a tree by having his arms skewered by a pair of kuni by the man, he was acting almost like a father.
"third and by far most importantly! from here on out you must act on your best behavior, don't do anything foolish, and don't do anything blatantly reckless! our people will be watching from here on out in order to determine whether or not your worthy of liveing... wait... what do you mean I'm out of time?! damn you! ive got to go, take care of yourself son, and remember everything I've said so far..." Akaran said as he quickly yanked the kuni out of Ferrum and headed off back into the woods. Ferrum struggled to his feet, though the blades where no longer in him the injures where still a treat and he would have to seek immediate aid, but that was one of the last things on his mind, "what did he mean when he said that i would have to 'prove myself worthy of living' and when he said that he would have to 'find some allys'...". he had no idea that his world had just been changed forever, weather it be for better or for worse was yet to be seen, but all he could do now was make his way back to the hospital and hope for the best.
